WHAT ARE OUR STORIES?

Snapchat’s Discover feed has a seemingly endless scroll of stories. Several of these stories are curated from user-submitted Snaps and edited by the Content Team before publishing. These popular shows—known as Our Stories—generate millions of daily views and cover everything from sports to the latest viral trends.

EDITORIAL ROLE IN CONTENT STRATEGY

The Editorial team ensures that copy is accurate and concise while maintaining Snapchat’s fun voice, but we don’t just write witty headlines. We also work with designers and producers to audit images, graphics and logos for an optimal mobile user experience. Everything from image cropping to caption colors matter!

THE GOOD…

Here are just a few examples of the high-performing stories stories I’ve worked on. In each example…

  1. Copy is fun and succinct

  2. Subject is easily identifiable

  3. Logos and graphics are positioned well

Stories like these generate the highest view count and the most time spent per story. Our audience is enticed by the catchy headlines and images, and the content keeps them hooked until completion.

THE BAD…

Here are examples from stories that didn’t perform well and why.

  1. Headline was too long

  2. Filter copy is too bright and hard to read

  3. Odell Beckham Jr.’s face was obscured

Small issues like these negatively impact the mobile viewing experience, which detracts from user enjoyment and makes stories perform poorly. These stories have low view counts, and our audience tends to click away before the story concludes.
